Statement:
The term medium in art it is used to describe a category of painting, such as oil painting, alkyd, acrylics, or watercolors like egg tempera, casein, gouache, encaustic, plaster, etc, which are the materials or technique used by an artist to produce a work of art. Medium can also refer to what carries paint's pigment and is also called a vehicle or a base. The medium is what determines what kind of paint is produced. A painter can mix a medium with its solvents, pigments and other substances in order to make paint and control its consistency. A variety of mediums are available that provide a matte, semi-gloss or glossy finish, as well as texture and volume. Different types of paint used by artists are usually identified by the medium that the pigment is suspended or embedded in, which determines the general working characteristics of the paint, such as viscosity, miscibility, solubility, drying time, etc.
Plastic Paint Medium is a painting technique for plastic artists (painters, sculptors, etc), which consist in the use of Epoxy Resin (any of a class of resins derived by polymerization from epoxies: used essentially in adhesives, coatings, and castings), mixed with pigments such as dry pigment, oil painting or acrylic paintings, etc, obtaining as a result a very hard, shining and very durable finish, similar to Plexiglas (a thermoplastic polymer of methyl methacrylic that is light in weight). Plastic Paint Medium is very resistant to the corrosive effects of weathering and an excellent blocker against the devastating UV's rays. Plastic Paint Medium it is not water based neither water-soluble, its drying or curing time is approximately six hours, depending on some factors such humidity, temperature or amount of pigment added to mix. It has being said is new because until that moment was almost impossible to obtain such shining, hardens, transparency, and real 3D effects with the conventional known mediums, this versatility put this medium in a standalone status. Similar effects can be obtained with newer generation of acrylic paintings for artists developed by Mark Golden that are unique in the ways in which the materials can be used in concert and in combination, making blending and application opportunities endless.

Vita / Lebenslauf:
Josignacio (born October 24, 1963) is a Contemporary Cuban Artist (painter), neo-figurative – mostly abstract – and creator of Plastic Paint Medium in 1984, a painting technique he widely uses in his artwork. Plastic Paint Medium consists in the use of epoxy resins as an "agglutinating medium" and "pigments" as colorants resulting in a real plastic finish with an utterly new visual effect. Art Critic Leonel Lopez-Nussa used the term “Newism” to refer to this new effect.
Josignacio, who has resided in the USA since 1989, has defined and drawn attention to a famous generation of young Cuban artists called by the critics as "The Generation of the 80's" (The most rebels of all).
Josignacio (who grew up in Cuba), is often credited with helping to refocus the Cuban contemporary art world from his native Havana to the Art World of Miami, Florida, the city that adopted him after leaving Cuba in 1989.
Jose Antonio Portuondo, renowned Cuban intellectual, has described Josignacio as "The artistic representative of the Plastic Age". Dr. Kenworth W. Moffett, former director of Museum of Art of Fort Lauderdale, said: "This new technique is the result of the marriage of art and technology". Colombian writer, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, has described Josignacio using phrases like: "Josignacio is a Natural Born Abstract", and "Josignacio is a revolution inside The Revolution". Dr. Max Doerner, one of the most serious investigators in the "Art techniques field”, cited and predicted: ‘the use of Synthetic Resins as mediums for artists’ in his book "The Materials of the Artist and Their Use in Painting". Josignacio's technique and his unique usage of it have been a topic of study for many art students, art scholars and art critics.
Some of his shows (mostly controversial) include: "Marihuana", "The Miami Clowns", "Liquid Sex", "Hot Sex At Your Own Risk", and his "Live Collages", are considered hits that have heated the Miami art scene. Josignacio's extensive exhibitions (almost more than any other artist of his generation), have been well-covered in the media, particularly following his “Best in Show Award” in 1996. Josignacio earned this prominent prize during the Hortt 38 Show (the oldest and most prestigious Juried Art Show of Florida), which took place at the Museum of Art of Fort Lauderdale; the award was given to one of his plastic paint medium artworks from his ‘Dualism Series’: "The 3 O'clock". Josignacio's body of work consists of several series, which he has maintained open for more than 20 years. These series consist of ‘Portrait Series’, ‘Dualism Series’, ‘Abstract Series’, ‘Erotic Series’, ‘Yoruba Series’, ‘Tauromaquia Series’, etc. With more than sixty Solo-Shows, his technique "Plastic Paint Medium" and his controversial exhibitions have redefined international expectations on Contemporary Cuban Art. Josignacio currently resides and creates his artwork in Miami Beach, Florida.
